The Red River Cultural District (RRCD) is proud to announce that the local nonprofit organization is now accepting grant applications from local musicians affected by the COVID-19 pandemic through its emergency relief fund, Banding Together ATX. Applications for the fifth and final round of relief grants are available online beginning today through Noon on Thursday, November 25 at redriverculturaldistrict.org

Founded in spring 2020, Banding Together ATX is an emergency relief grant program intended to support Austin’s live music community. Since its inception, Banding Together ATX has awarded $225,000 across over 3,000 individual grants to performers and industry workers found with one of the country’s most iconic music communitiesFor the final phase of the grant program that concludes this winter, Banding Together ATX will be awarding $30,000 in grants in the form of HEB gift cards up to $75, with grants being designated specifically to working musicians that rely on regular programming to survive financially. Phase 5 grants will be awarded to relevant applicants on a first-come, first-served basis.

All Greater Austin Area musicians and live performance artists who have lost income due to the COVID-19 pandemic are eligible to apply – including those who have previously applied and/or those were approved for prior funding – although Phase 5 applicants must meet the following requirements in order to qualify:

  • Be 18 years of age or older;
  • Be a musician or live performance artist;
  • Reside in Austin or the greater-Austin area;
  • Have lost employment, performance opportunities, and/or earned income as a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic;

RRCD formed Banding Together ATX in March 2020 as a direct result of the cancellation of SXSW as well as the ongoing economic devastation related to COVID-19. Notable business donors for Banding Together ATX include H‑E‑B’s “Helping Here“ food assistance program and Tito’s Handmade Vodka’s “Love, Tito’s” philanthropic initiative; as well as SXSW, CNN, Airbnb, Fandiem, and Lone Star Beer, among others.
